What's with the signs???

I hope you're here because you've seen the signs. Streaks of 5 signs with rhymes on them.

WHY? Why have I chosen to use this campaign method?

And most importantly ...

Am I nuts?

Let me know!

And do you know where I got the idea? I can't really claim it... It's famous...

Prize for the first person who puts the answer in a comment!

As a leadership and business scholar and practitioner of the same I am intrigued with your briefly described vision. In fact, your signs were provoking enough to lead me to leave this comment. I am a newer Merrimack resident with two children of my own. I purposely chose and have come to love this town. I cheer you and anyone else with the desire and proper philosophy on to make Merrimack greater than the sum of are parts, greater than us all.

Fred,

Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad the signs did their job.

I had a great conversation at the town meeting tonight with one of Merrimack's sages -- Chuck Mower. Chuck and I started on opposite sides of some real tough issues 14 years ago, but I have learned to value his insights.

Chuck was talking about the necessity of having hard work behind great ideas. I think you have to have both... a "vision" a sticky idea that can rally people in a word or two. But then there has to be the hard work of making it happen.

I'd love to know how you see things as we walk through this election and beyond. PLEASE consider yourself my guest commentator here!

The signs worked again! I've worked in Merrimack for 7 years and lived here for 5 with my husband & daughter. We love it here and as my daughter gets older we looked forward to being involved even more. I agree we should get proactive instead of reactive to the exciting economic developments that are coming to Merrimack. It is a unique town that, with a well planned vision can be an even better place to live, work and play.

I applaud you for your refreshing approach. I can only hope it becomes contagious!

The style of signs (three, four, or five signs in a row each giving a portion of a humorous rhyme, followed by a sign identifying the source) are commonly called "Burma Shave" signs, named for the company that put them up.

What's the prize? :)

Let me know how I can get it to you.

Congrats!

(Actually, you were second ... Got a post on another message identifying it... but you're the first one here.)

I've got a question, what the heck do the signs on Baboosic mean (something about driving east to west)?????
Thank you.

Hey Dave,
I get my caffeine from Pepsi most of the time -- but my gf is a real Dunkin Donuts fanatic. So if you still want to hand it out, even after I wasn't first, gmail me and I'll send my address...

Stan--

For those who don't know that particular set of signs, they read:

Crossing Town
From East to West
Puts Each Driver
To the Test

Merrimack has an inherent problem which goes back to its earliest days. We are naturally prone to develop and transit north to south.

But increasingly, our areas for new development are west. Looking at the map, there are only 3 clear east to west transit routes, Amherst, Baboosic and Bedford Roads.

More and more people from Amherst and Bedford are using Baboosic (and perhaps Bedford and Amherst) as cut-throughs to jobs in town, or to the turnpike.

With buses doing the shuffle between the Middle School and the High School, Baboosic is jammed in the mornings. Several friends who work here and live to our west tell me it's added 10 to 30 minutes to their commutes some mornings.

I think we need a serious look at our East-West transportation map. I think we may need different, or wider routes.

I think we at least need to put it on the table as a serious issue.

THAT'S what I mean...

Besides the obvious, that I want to drive you to the website.

:)

Thanks for dropping by!
